IMPRESSIONS OF A SUMMER, A FILM BY AYcA CIFTCI, 2020. Through fleeting, sunlit glimpses of coastal life, Ayca ciftçi’s dialogue-free short transforms ordinary summer moments into a meditative memory.
It is an ordinary summer day in Turkey as anywhere in the world. Two little girls skipping stones up in the clouds, waves of light softly rippling ashore, beach umbrellas dancing in harmony, a young boy sleeping by the sea, daylight murmuring as leaves rustle in the wind... Inspired by how impressionist paintings celebrate the glorious colours of summer, the luminosity of nature, coastal landscapes, and human figures at leisure, this short film captures the impressions of a summer in Turkey.
These fragments from daily life have been stitched together as a series of moving image paintings that are accompanied by the reimagined soundscapes of a summer. If we could hear the sound of light, what would it be like?
